How To Lead A Healthy And Happy Life

Medical science has grown by leaps and bounds over the years and yet with every new cure that is invented, it seems as though a new disease is also being discovered. While certain diseases like polio and small pox are slowly getting eradicated from the developed world, lifestyle disorders such as diabetes, cholesterol and BP are affecting more and more people today.

Most diseases can be cured with proper treatment and medicines. But when it comes to lifestyle disorders, prevention is always better than cure. These days, every other person seems to be popping some pill or the other for some disorder or the other. Why have lifestyle disorders become the order of the day now?

What causes lifestyle disorders?

As the name suggests most lifestyle disorders are caused mainly by our lifestyle. In combination with other factors such as heredity and genes, our habits and way of life is the main reason for a lot of us to become unhealthy. Many of us lead rather sedentary lives. We work at desk jobs and even at our homes a lot of the household chores are automated. Gone are the days when we had to do some form of physical activity around the house – now we have machines for everything to lessen our load. Of course this is a blessing but it is also a bane in disguise.

With not enough exercise our bodies become weak and susceptible to illnesses. Pollution free air and water are a distant dream for most of us, city folks. On top of this, most of our food is also loaded with harmful chemicals, pesticides and preservatives that take a toll on our health. Additionally, our fast food culture ensures that we load up on unnecessary fats while missing out on essential nutrients in our diets.

What’s more, our lives have become fast paced and way too stressful. At times, even children are not exempt from the pressures of daily lives. With demanding jobs, long working hours, tight deadlines and heavy competition at the workplace it is no wonder that our bodies go out of control.

What can we do to lead healthier lives?

Adopting a healthy way of life needs discipline and determination. If you are intent on improving the quality of your life, there are several things that you can start doing right away. Some of them are as below:

  1. Follow an exercise regimen: You don’t have to spend hours at the gym but even a simple, brisk walk for 30 minutes a day can do magic for your health. Walking in the early morning is a great way to get some Vitamin D as well.

If you are not a big fan of walking, then choose any form of physical activity that you would enjoy and get moving! It could be swimming, aerobics, Zumba, or even martial arts training. Whatever activity you choose, don’t fail to do it regularly.

  1. Be conscious of what you eat: There is a plethora of diet plans available today – Paleo, GM Diet, Raw Foods and what not! Not all of us need to go on strict diets but surely all of us can be mindful of what we put into our bodies. Try to always go for locally grown produce and locally made food items. If possible try to start a small vegetable garden and grow at least a few vegetables on your own. If you can afford it, try to buy genuinely organic food products on https://www.fitnessdiscountcodes.co.uk/

    .

Eliminate junk from your diet and try to include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Try to cook your own meals instead of resorting to unhealthy take-out meals too often. Educate and inculcate healthy eating habits in your children. Of course, you can indulge yourself from time to time and give in to your cravings but remember to practice portion control and balance out your eating habits.

Also, resist the urge to keep popping medicines for each and every minor ailment that affects your body. Obviously certain diseases need to be treated with drugs. But self-medication and overuse of antibiotics can be more harmful than beneficial to your body in the long run.

Most importantly cut down on alcohol, tobacco and other such addictive substances as soon as you can. They can have a majorly detrimental effect on your health – not to mention relationships - and such habits are best left out of your lives.
